MS DLC (All 5 Modules)
Introduction
The goal of Microsoft Digital Literacy is to teach and assess basic computer concepts and skills. It helps people use computer technology in everyday life to develop new social and economic opportunities for themselves, their families, and their communities. This latest Version 2 of the Digital Literacy Curriculum (DLC) includes interactive examples and screenshots to train you on Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Windows Vista.
Whether you are entirely new to computing or have some experience, this curriculum will help you develop a fundamental understanding of computers. From using the internet to sending e-mail or creating a résumé, the Digital Literacy Curriculum helps you develop the essential skills you need to begin computing with confidence.
ALISON have, with the agreement of the Microsoft Corporation, made this course freely accessible to any individual on the ALISON website. Any teacher, tutor or HR manager, at any school, community centre or business, can also use our online learning management system, ALISON Manager, to manage groups of learners taking this course - for free.
What You Will Learn
The Microsoft Digital Literacy Curriculum (MS DLC) consists of five modules, as listed below. Each module is also available as a stand-alone course on ALISON, and clicking the links will take you to the information for that stand-alone course.
The full course suite (this course) combines these five modules with assessment to provide a one-stop, certified, Digital Literacy qualification.
Some of the main things that you will learn by the end of the full course are how to:
- Identify the main parts of a computer.
- Work with the Windows Vista interface to use programs.
- Explore websites by using a Web browser.
- Write and send e-mail messages.
- Perform basic word processor tasks.
- Add graphics and multimedia to a presentation.
- Identify best practices for securing online transactions.
- Explain how to edit and manage digital images.
Prior Knowledge Needed
None
The course consists of five modules, with a total of 25 lessons, 97 topics and five assessments. The complete course will take 10-15 hours to complete.
Assessment and Certification
At the end of each module you can take an assessment to test your knowledge. Completing all of the topics in the course and answering the assessment questions with 80% accuracy automatically qualifies a learner for ALISON Certification. An ALISON certificate holder can download and print their certificate from their 'My Account' page.
You can also go to the Microsoft website to take the Microsoft Digital Literacy Certificate Test, which consists of 30 questions covering all five modules of the Digital Literacy courses. If you get a passing score, you will be invited to personalise and print a Digital Literacy Certificate.
