ALISON is a global social enterprise providing essential, certified, education and workplace training skills free to any individual, anywhere, over the web.
With 2.5 million learners in 200 countries, ALISON has global reach and a global reputation. Since 2007, some 300,000 people all over the world have graduated with our free certificate courses and free diploma courses. And more than 10,000 have shared their stories – a testament to the positive change ALISON has brought to their lives.
Founded in 2007, our contribution has been recognised globally with the UNESCO Award for Innovation in ICT in Education in 2010, and the World Summit for Education Award in 2013 for “outstanding quality and exceptional impact on education through innovation.” In 2009, the UK Government’s Informal Adult Learning Report said of our approach:
“ALISON opens up the world of knowledge offering new, flexible, and exciting ways to learn … ever-expanding learning opportunities are possible through the availability of hand-held devices, wide access to broadband and wireless connections, the growth in open source materials, and free interactive multimedia learning programmes such as ALISON.”
Your success is our priority, and ours depends on yours. We need you, our learners and supporters, to help us provide a better service every day, and to spread the word about free learning at ALISON in your local community. As Nelson Mandela said, “education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.” Mahatma Ghandi said everyone should “learn as if you were to live forever.”
At ALISON, we believe certifiable, standards-based learning can be made available for every subject, for free, online, especially marginalized people in the developing and the developed worlds. “Everyone has the right to education”, says the UN Declaration on Human Rights, “Education shall be free…” ALISON leads the way, helping people to educate themselves for free, building a fairer, more sustainable global community.
