If you're a regular reader of ENN and this humble blog then the chances are that you are already highly literate in the ways of the PC. Of course, it's not like that for quite a few folk. Lots of people are shoved into an information cul-de-sac through lack of knowledge, experience or access to affordable ICT training. So it's heartening to see a small Galway based outfit, Advance Learning, which has quietly been plugging away with a web-based training service called ALISON, a service that expects to reach a million subscribers by the end of 2007 for its online courses in ECDL, E-Citizen, etcetera. But here's the best bit... it's free to individuals. It's a great start for a small west coast technology firm that's managing to prove that not everything has to be driven purely by profit... though that's nice too, of course.
